Luncheons, Benefit
Set For '69 Season

Virginia's Cavayearlings will
meet the VPI Baby Gobblers in an
American Cancer Society benefit
game at Scott Stadium on Sept. 26.

In donating the game's proceeds
to the Charlottesville-Albemarle
Unit of the American Cancer
Society an athletic department
spokesman said, "We feel this is a
very worthy cause and are happy to
honor this request."

Tickets for the game, which
should feature the two strongest
first year teams in the state, will be
on sale prior to the game at
University Hall, Mincer's Pipe Shop.
Carriage Cleaners, Cary's Camera
Shop, Downtown Athletic Store,
and from members of the Board of
Directors of the local cancer unit.

Both Tech Coach Jerry Claiborne
and Coach Blackburn are
supporters of fund-raising groups
for cancer research. This marks the
first time that the Athletic Department
has participated in such an
event.

Tickets will cost $1.00 for
adults and $.50 for high and
elementary school students. University
students will be admitted free
with their ID cards, but their dates
will need tickets.

The first of a series of football
luncheons will be kicked off Thursday
at 1 p.m. at the Monticello
Hotel. Four other such gatherings
will take place on Thursday afternoon
prior to the Cavaliers' home
football contests.

Fall luncheon will begin with a
telephone interview conducted with
the head football coach of the team
Virginia must face the following
Saturday. Following this talk, the
sports information director of the
opposing school will enlighten the
audience with further facts about
the strengths and weaknesses of the
Cavaliers' opponent. Virginia football
mentor George Blackburn will
end the proceedings with a brief
question and answer period.

Athletic Director Steve Sebo has
stressed that all businessmen, faculty,
and students interested in
following Virginia football this fall
should attend the luncheons.
Tickets are on sale for the low price
of $2.50 per person. This Thursday's
gathering features a phone
interview with Clemson football
coach Frank Howard.
