Virginia Lands New Sportscaster
Play by Play...Hello all of
you out there in radioland.
Chris Cramer, the voice of the
Cavaliers for 17 years now, has
found himself a press box mike
mate for the coming season
and many more to come we
hope. Veteran sportscaster
John Gordon has decided to
leave Annapolis and the Orioles
for Charlottesville where he
will take over the play by play
in football and handle the
color for basketball.
In recent years, Gordon has
handled Navy football and
basketball along with the
Baltimore Orioles baseball
broadcasts and telecasts from
1970-72. A veteran broadcaster
with 14 years experience on
the high school, collegiate, and
professional level, Gordan will
also operate as a field secretary
for the Virginia Student Aid
Foundation.
Director of Athletics Gene
Corrigan had indicated that the
Cramer-Gordan team should
prove second to none. "It's a
definate plus for the Virginia
athletic program," Corrigan
state
Season Tickets...There
seems to be a rumor floating
about that this is the year for
Virginia football. Well, from the
way season tickets have been
selling, some people must have
bought that line. Season
football tickets are up 32%
over comparable period a year
ago. As of June 6, 3,628 season
tickets had been sold, and
unless some of them decide to
stay home, that's probably all
that will show up for the
Wahoos September 8 clash
with the impuisant Kee Dets of
V.M.I.
Intramurals
Squash...On the intramural
scene, the entry deadline for
competitive squash is July 13.
The starting date is the 17th.
League games will be round
robin in nature and will be in
the form of matches with a
team having to win 2 out of
three games to win a match.
Karate..."Eeeyaah". That is,
beginners' classes in karate will
be held twice weekly, Monday
and Wednesday from 7-10 p.m.
in the wrestling room of
Memorial Gym. If you did not
attend last Monday's class
make sure to report at 7 p.m.
this Wednesday.
