Title Thirsty Terps Topple From Third
By NED ROBERTS
The return of the University of
San Francisco to national
prominence and the
appearance of Oklahoma, not
noted for its basketball
prowess, highlighted the
breakthrough of eight new
teams into UPI's weekly
coaches poll.
UCLA again was
unanimously selected as the
coaches first choice, however,
the other Pacific-8 power,
Southern Cal, dropped out of
the ratings after two losses last
week.
Florida State repeated in
the second spot, but Maryland
and Minnesota were knocked
down a notch as Marquette
hurdled forward to the No. 3
slot with wins over Tennessee
and Memphis State.
The remaining top-ten was
completed by North Carolina
State, Long Beach State, S.W.
Louisiana, North Carolina, and
Missouri. The tenth-ranked
Tigers lead the sizable list of
new comers to the top 20
ranks.
