Established in 1950 by the
Honor Committee, the Bad
Check Committee deals with
problems created by University
students' passing bad checks.
The secretaries of the
undergraduate schools
comprise the agency, and the
College secretary serves as
chairman

The Honor System provides
University students the
privilege of cashing checks with
relative case in Charlottesville
and surrounding areas

The spirit of goodwill and
mutual trust between the local
merchants and students is a
valuable relationship and
individuals are obligated to
safeguard against cashing had
checks

Upon receipt of a notice of
a bad check from the Bad
Check Committee secretary
(Mrs Lee A Bickers the
Treasurer's Office. First Floor
Garrett Hall) a student has a
five-day grace period in which
to reimburse the payee of the
bad check Settlement for
checks cashed by
Charlottesville merchants,
businessmen or banks should
be made directly with these
institutions.

Payment for checks cashed
in Newcomb Hall, except the
bank or with Food Service
(Newcomb Hall Bookstore,
The Cafeteria, The Grill, The
Glass Hat, The Castle, The
Cave, etc.) must be made by
paying Mrs. Bickers.

If reimbursement for the
bad check is made with
someone other than Mrs.
Bickers, such as a
Charlottesville merchant, the
student is responsible for
notifying her of satisfactory
settlement within the five-day
grace period.

The student can call Mrs.
Bickers at 924-3230. Office
hours at Garrett Hall are
Monday through Friday 8 a.m.
to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Failure to settle a bad check
will result in a call for trial by
the Bad Check Committee and
a possible fine of up to $15
per offense

Whenever a bad check is
passed, it discredits the
University, the Honor System,
and ultimately each student.
