Hickel Calls For Laws 'To Set Men Free'

up. The companies would
police themselves producing
"the finest government of all."

"We didn't hire an extra
man; didn't spend an extra
dollar."

Mr. Hickel stressed again that
"hate isn't the answer in
dealing with these problems.

"I wasn't interested in
punishing an individual
company, but I wanted to
make sure that no individual
company was going to punish
200 million Americans.

In addressing the lawyers and
law students in the audience at
the Student Legal
Forum-sponsored speech, Mr.
Hickel said he believes "young
lawyers of today are protesting
the phoniness of the law."

He called for laws "to set
men free, to make them
human. Not just laws geared to
monetary justice."

"Many solutions to today's
problems lie in the hands of
young attorneys coming up,
who will say in their in their
minds and hearts that if a law
is in the best interest of the
public as a whole, it is likewise
in the best interest of the
special few; not the reverse,"
he said.
