A Finisher But, Alas, Not The Winner Of Yesterday's Stumblefoot Derby Breaks Tape
Phi Delts, With Nearly All House Members In The Running. Tied AEPi For High Point Lead
With the annual running
(jogging? walking?) of the
Stumblefoot Derby yesterday
afternoon, the Intramural
Department's High Point race came,
unofficially, to a deadlock between
Phi Delt and AEPi.
Paced by Bill McSherry's sixth
place, Phi Delt scored 102 points to
win the meet and overtake previous
High Point leader AEPi, who ran up
46 points to stand with the Phi's at
1745 all. Zete chalked up 40 points
and is third at 1630 with Phi Kap
back to fourth at 1595. Although
these totals are unofficial, it is
obvious that this is one of the
closest High Point races in history.
Top Ten
Other houses in the top ten
included PiKA, Sigma Nu, Sigma
Chi, Phi Gam, Sigma Pi, and SAE.
In the finals of the softball
tournament, Sigma Pi racked up its
second major title by defeating SPE,
6-2, in the championship finals. Phi
Psi jolted Phi Delt's entry 9-4 to
take the consolation tournament.
Track Monday
Inclement weather forced
postponement of Wednesday's
track meet but Monday will be the
rescheduled meet. With field events
beginning at 2 p.m. and running
preliminaries at 3, the meet will be
held on the new Lannigan Field
facility behind University Hall.
PEP & Putt-Putt
In other IM wrap ups, PEP holds
three of the final four places in the
Putt-Putt tourney which is, in
addition to golf, in the semi-final
round. Phi Kap is running true to
form in the badminton event. A
perennial strong point, the Phi Kap's
old five of eight remaining single
berths while their defending
champion doubles squad of
Carrington and Grimes remains
unbeaten in their bid to repeat as
winners.
Wrestling has also reached its
semi-final round with Sigma Nu and
Phi Delt strong among the
remaining 36 grapplers. Semis are
Monday at 3:30 with the finals
Wednesday evening at Memorial
Gym.
