Featherweight Oarsmen Sought
As Crew Expands Program

University's Crew Holds Practice On Rivanna Reservoir To Prepare For Expanding Schedule

Oarsmen Invite All Who Would Like To Come Out To Enjoy Some Recreational Rowing

Are you close to six feet and
over a hundred and seventy
pounds? If not, you can participate
in the crew's light weight program.
In no other way is the crew a
discriminatory organization.

In fact, the squad is considering
women's recreational rowing. The
crew has its first organizational
meeting this Wednesday night at
seven for freshmen, eight for
upperclassmen.

Fall practices will be organized
for informal rowing at four p.m.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The, first concern will be the
preliminary instruction of first-year
men. During the opening weeks the
new prospects will have the opportunity
of rowing in mixed boats
with experienced upperclassmen.
Freshmen oarsmen have their own
season; no experience is necessary.

At present, the crew is without a
head coach; the chief candidate for
the position is the Greek national
sculler. Because of the organizational
problems, the situation is
critical. The four year program has
come too far in its acquisition of a
boathouse, of new and used shells,
and of a new trailer, to be allowed
to fold. The crew veterans want any
interested freshmen to join them in
what has become an improving,
strong program.

Returning oarsmen are reminded
of Wednesday's meeting and asked
to bring their dues to help cover an
annex to the boathouse.
