Glee Club Plans Full Season

Are you a Russian bass? An
Irish tenor, perhaps? Soprano?
Maybe you don't really know how
high or low your voice can sing.
Don't let that stop you from
auditioning for the University Glee
Club.

For nearly a century the Glee
Club's broad repertory of music has
been heard in Charlottesville and
elsewhere.

Last season, in addition to its
regular season of concerts, the Glee
Club appeared in joint concert with
Virginia Tech Glee Club on the
Tech campus. The Club also
performed at Monticello for the
annual banquet of the Thomas
Jefferson Memorial Foundation.

The highlight of the season was a
performance at the State
Department, at the personal
invitation of Mrs. Dean Rusk, for
the banquet of the Washington
diplomatic corps. The Virginia Glee
Club is the only glee club ever to
appear at this annual affair.

The coming season will begin
with the annual Fall Football
Concert on Openings Weekend. The
traditional Christmas Concert, long
a highlight of the Charlottesville
Holiday Season, follows in
December.

In addition, the Club will travel
to Roanoke for two television
appearances in December. Plans are
also being made for a performance
with the Sweet Briar College Choir
during their Christmas services.

The second semester will be
highlighted by the gala Spring
Concert, performed this year with
the Mary Baldwin College Choir,
and the annual concert on the
Lawn. Preliminary plans for other
concerts have been made and
invitations to perform are received
throughout the year.

Auditions for the Glee Club can
be arranged by contacting Donald
G. Loach, the Director, by
contacting the Music Department in
Room 21 in Old Cabell Hall, or by
coming to the organizational
meeting on Monday, September 16
at 7 p.m. in Room 12 of Old Cabell
Hall. An ability to read music is not
necessary for admission to the
Club.
