Six weeks have elapsed since the
onset of the Pigskin Picks, and at
this approximate midpoint of the
season, the leader by a game is the
Gastonia, N.C. "wizard" (the
adjacent is a direct quote) John
Markon over a challenging duo,
Hugh Carter and Ernest Dempsey,
who, this week for the first time
will go their separate ways.

Two unanimous games head the
prudential schedule this session.
Maryland's Terrapins join the Green
Wave of Tulane as 10-0 choices to
triumph at home against VMI and
Vanderbilt respectively.

"Dangerous Doug" Doughty is
looking less and less dangerous each
week but still persists in bucking
the flow to take Colorado over
nationally No. 1 Nebraska. Other
lonesome souls include cellar
dwellers Davis Marshall and Bill
Nachman who like William and
Mary and South Carolina's
Gamecocks in relation to North
Carolina and undefeated Georgia
respectively.

Four games are rated 8-2 by the
vindictive voters on this week's
slate including Wake Forest over
Clemson (front runners Markon and
A. Barney Cooke differ), Georgia
Tech over the ACC's Duke (T. Bell
and Ernest Dempsey resisting), and
Florida State over Houston in The
Dome with two of the leaders
unswayed by the majority.

In the other contest, even
professed coal-cracker Randy Wert
has forsaken the Pitt Panthers in
favor of Syracuse with Hugh
Antrim and Nachman taking up the
Pitt cause.
