Peace With Poverty

"You mean until another
Democrat gets elected?"

"I didn't say that,"
Harelipman said.

"But you mean until the
election?"

"Election? Oh, you mean
the plebiscite."

Harelipman reddened.
"Never. Mr. Nixon will not go
down in history as the first
American President to lose a
war. We have not surrendered.
We have merely agreed to a
ceasefire. This is peace with
honor."

"Well, let me ask you. What
are the poor getting out of all
this?"

Harelipman regained his
composure. "They are getting
their freedom. No longer will
they have to worry about
government interference. We
are guaranteeing them their
Right to be Poor."

"What are the chances of
the ceasefire working, of the
War staying ended?" the
reporter asked.

"I can say with authority
that the ceasefire will stay in
effect until at least 1976,"
Harelipman said.
