Secret Fund
Finances
Maneuvers
Justice Dept. Files.
Investigators assert that the
maneuvers were financed by a
secret $350,000 to $700,000
campaign fund under the
control of then-Attorney
General John N. Mitchell. One
purpose of the program was
allegedly "to create so much
confusion, suspicion, and
dissension" that the Democrats
would be unable to unite
behind any candidate
nominated.
