Opera Lecture Planned
By University Center

Bringing opera to life will be
discussed in a lecture Friday at the
University by Boris Goldovsky,
director of the Goldovsky Opera
Institute in New York.

Beginning at 11 a.m. in Old
Cabell Hall, Mr. Goldovsky's appearance
will be under the auspices
of the University Center in Virginia.

Founder of the New England
Opera Theater and a fellow of the
American Academy of Arts and
Sciences, Mr. Goldovsky was graduated
from the Piano Master Class of
Ernest Dohnanyl at the Liszt
Academy in 'Budapest, Hungary,
and from the Curtis Institute of
Music in Philadelphia as conductor
under Fritz Reiner.

For a number of years he was
master of ceremonies of the intermission
feature "Opera News of the
Air" on the Metropolitan Opera
Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts.
Author of the book "Bringing
Opera to Life," Mr. Goldovsky has
trained singers, conductors and
stage directors at the Berkshire
Music Center at Tanglewood, Stanford
University and Northwestern
University.

Mr. Goldovsky's productions in
English have been a highlight of the
University Union's Artists Series for
several years.
