Two Housing Proposals
Brought Before Council

stream and land large enough for a
play area. Tentative plans have been
made for construction to begin this
fall.

The other proposal is a product
of St. Paul's Housing Task Force's
investigations into the
pre-fabricated type of house in
Warrenton where a development is
located. The units are 12 × 48 feet,
rather long and narrow, with
peaked roofs, and house-type doors
and windows. Mr. Lowe said that
there may be a problem in
maintenance, as the plywood
exterior is susceptible to
deterioration. This problem may
require educational programs to
instruct the residents in the caring
for the homes.

The cost is estimated as $4,200
for a furnished two bedroom unit,
and $6,200 for a four bedroom
unit. The cost of the land is
expected to be about $3,000, This
means that a family could buy a
house of this type for a
comparatively low price, ($9,000.)
This is expected to encourage
private ownership and to increase
the sense of responsibility of the
persons who live in them.
