Loach's Troops Open Campaign

illustration

The Glee Clubs of the University and
Mount Holyoke College will make their first
appearance together this Sunday evening at 8
in Cabell Hall auditorium. Catherine Melhorn
and Donald Loach will conduct the 110 voice
chorus presentation of masterpieces in choral
music.

The repertoire will include multi-chorus
Psalms by Schutz accompanied by a brass
quintel and Bach's motet "Komm, Jesu,
Komm" for which the group will divide and
sing antiphonally. The Stravinsky "Mass"
will feature original instrumental
accompaniment of winds and brass. The
concert will close with five folk songs set by
Vaughan Williams. Also the clubs will
separately perform pieces by Britten.

This concert marks the official beginning
of a concert tour by the combined Glee Clubs
that will include concerts in Chapel Hill,
Charleston, and Bruton Parish Church in
Williamsburg. Sunday concerts in the National
Cathedral and First Baptist Church in
Washington, D.C., conclude the week long
tour.

In addition to a concert tour in Europe,
the Mount Holyoke College Glee Club has in
recent years performed Bach's "Mass in b
minor", Haydn's "Creation", and Verdi's
"Requiem" in concert halls such as the John
F. Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and Ford
Auditorium.
