communication with the
officers of the various student
government organizations and
he or other members of his
staff are regularly appointed to
the appropriate University
committees concerned with
student life and student
activities."

Since the committee has
been instructed to look outside
the University for possible
successors, Mr. Cross stressed
the importance that the Vice
President of Student Affairs
"understand the special quality
of the University. He must be,
as is Mr. Williams, sensitive to
the range of interests and
concerns of the University."

Candidates from outside the
University will be examined
"on their own land" and will
then be asked to visit the
University. Personal interviews,
in addition to the resume, will
be stressed, Mr. Cross added.

Although the committee is
still in early stages of candidate
selection, it will narrow the list
of candidates by the end of
this month.
