She believes that the prison
proposal will eventually resolve
itself, as will the mining
proposal. "This proposal is not
really a fiat accompli– I can't
envision anything happening."
Mrs. Ely said that she feels
the action by Grace and Co. is
diversionary, "to take the
spotlight away from the prison
controversy."
According to Mr. Agee, the
strip-mining operation was the
main issue at a closed-door
session of the Board of
Supervisors following its
regular meeting Tuesday
morning.
The board also discussed the
prospect of a circumferential
road around Lake Anna, to
encourage growth in the new
reservoir area. The lake
supplies cooling water for
Vepco's nuclear power
generating station now under
construction.
