Rubin Offs

legitimate way to foster change.

But what happens now? How
can the people who are leading this
strike unite those separate factions
into a vital force that will make the
strike as much a success as possible?
The first step has already been
taken. The strike committee has
narrowed the demands to include
only the Cambodia and Kent State
issues. With fewer; more specific
and generally more acceptable goals
for the strike, the movement hopes
to attract those who were alienated
by Mr. Rubin in University Hall.

Members of the strike
committee now admit that it must
claim no affiliation with Jerry
Rubin, the Yippie movement and
violent action. The strike
committee must go out to those
who were baffled by a display of
true radicalism and the strike
committee must bring these people
back to their ranks. The committee
must destroy any split within the
movement and present a unified
picture of the views held by the
striking students. Only when this is
accomplished, these leaders now
realize, can the strike begin to be
effective.
