In an interview with
Cavalier Daily staff members,
Mr. Henderson said that his
career in the Republican party,
of which he was State
Chairman, began as an attempt
to present an alternative to the
"Byrd machine."

His decision to run as an
Independent came because of
the views of his opponents,
which he feels polarize the
State's voters. Mr. Henderson
considers himself "middle of
the road."

"Our first responsibility is
to the people of America and
the promise of this nation can
never be fulfilled until every
citizen has the equal right and
opportunity to a better life,"
said Mr. Henderson.
