100 Aesthetes To Cover
Wide Range Of Topics
Topics will range from experimental
films to Jeffersonian architecture
at the American Society of
Aesthetics meeting tomorrow
through Saturday at the University.
More than 100 professors, composers
and painters from the United
States and two foreign countries are
expected to attend the panel
discussions and lectures by experts
in various disciplines.
Registration, open to students
and public, will be from 8 a.m. to
noon at Newcomb Hall South
Meeting Room. If space permits,
unregistered persons may be admitted
to individual sessions.
In addition to morning and
afternoon sessions, evening programs
will include a discussion of
"The New Cinema" by Allan
Casebier, professor of philosophy at
the University of Southern California,
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in
Newcomb Hall ballroom. Eight
experimental films will be shown
including "Neighbors," "Oh Dem
Watermelons" and "Breathdeath."
Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the
ballroom, Greek composer lannis
Xenakis will examine "Problems of
Contemporary Musical Composition."
At 1:30 p.m. Saturday in South
Meeting Room, William B. O'Neal
professor of architecture at the
University, will give a slide lecture
on "Jeffersonian Architecture," followed
by a lecture tour of the
University and Monticello.
