Students Enter
Faculty Meeting

will be instructed to report to the
faculty early next fall, no later than
at its October meeting, Dean
Bowers assured.

He said that, although no
students will sit on the committee,
it will consider the opinions of the
officers of the various news media.
The committee will be made up of
members who are as impartial as
possible in their opinions on student
reporters.

Dean Bowers said that, considering
that the faculty had turned
down a similar request two months
ago, the action taken yesterday
"was better than might have been
expected."

Most faculty members questioned
after the meeting said that they
did not feel the demonstration will
hinder the reversal of the faculty's
first decision.

"Very Good"

William Watson, a sociology
professor, walked out of the meeting
shortly after all the students
had left. As he exited, Mr. Watson
mumbled to the students massed at
the doors to the auditorium "Very
good, terrific." He later told some
of the students, "You did right to
try to speak."

Dean Marcus Mallett said that,
although a group as large as the
faculty was bound to have numerous
opinions, he saw no reason for
yesterday's affair to adversely effect
the renewed efforts to admit
the student reporters.

Dean Bowers was asked whether
or not a student sitting on a faculty
committee next year would be
allowed to attend the meetings,
especially if he wanted to give a
minority report. Dean Bowers said
that the student would either have
to ask another member of the
committee to give the report or he
would have to be invited to the
meeting by the Dean of the
Faculty.

If he were invited, he would give
his report and answer any questions
on it. He would have to leave
before any vote or further discussion
was held on it, however.
