Republican Nominee
Addresses University
Richard D. Obenshain, Republican
candidate for Attorney
General of Virginia, will address the
University Young Republicans at 8
p.m. Thursday in room 4c of
Newcomb Hall.
A partner in the law firm of
McGuire, Woods and Battle in
Richmond, Mr. Obenshain was
nominated at the Republican state
convention in Roanoke earlier this
month. Nominated to run for
governor was Linwood Holton of
Roanoke. State Senator Henry
Dawbarn is the candidate for
lieutenant-governor.
In 1964 Mr. Obenshain ran a
close, but unsuccessful race for
Congress in the Third District. Prior
to that he served as chairman of the
Virginia Young Republican Federation
for three years. He has been an
active figure in Republican politics
in the Richmond area for some
time.
Receiving his bachelor's degree
from Bridgewater College in 1956,
Mr. Obenshain took his law degree
in 1959 from the New York
University Law School, where he
was a Root-Tilden Scholar. He was
named to "Who's Who in American
Politics, 1967-68."
At Bridgewater, Mr. Obenshain,
who took a degree in economics,
was president of the student body.
