To Lecture Here
As Visiting Teacher
Denton A. Cooley, Houston
heart surgeon who has performed
more heart transplant operations
than any other surgeon in the
world, will be at the University
School of Medicine as visiting professor
and speaker February 19.
Dr. Cooley, professor of surgery
at Baylor University College of
Medicine, will speak on "Cardiac
Transplantation in Man: Results
and Conclusions" at 4 p.m. in the
medical school auditorium. His appearance
is sponsored by the
School of Medicine, the department
of surgery and the Southern Medical
Association.
As visiting professor, Dr. Cooley
will work in the operating room
with hospital residents, make ward
rounds with interns and residents
and conduct classes for medical
students.
Particularly interested in heart
disorders in infants, Dr. Cooley is
the founder of and chief fund raiser
for the Texas Heart Institute in
Houston. The institute is devoted
to the diagnosis and treatment of
heart diseases responsive to surgery.
Also chief or cardiovascular surgeon
at St. Luke's Episcopal -
Texas Children's Hospital, Dr.
Cooley participated in the early
development of the famous Blalock
operation for blue babies. After
completing medical studies at Johns
Hopkins University, he spent a year
at the Brompton Hospital for Chest
Diseases in London.
