Bookstore Increases
Merchandise, Services

Newcomb Hall's Book Store has
recently undergone an expansion
and by October first will have
doubled in size.

In the fiscal year 1966-1967,
the Book Store, located on the first
floor of Newcomb Hall, only
carried 4800 titles. There are now
6200 different titles available and
with the completion of the
expansion there will be room for
10,000 titles on the shelves.

Many new additions will be
added to the services offered when
the construction is completed. One
such addition will be a search
service. This service will locate
out-of-print hardback books for
students and faculty alike. A
minimum charge will be required to
cover the cost of advertising the
desired title in a trade journal,
subscribed to by 1200 book
collectors.

A little known service is offered
by the Newcomb Hall Store. This
bookbinding service is primarily for
hardback books. Books are sent to
an Indiana firm for expert
rebinding and are returned within
one month.

A great deal of competition
exists between the Newcomb Hall
Book Store and bookstores on the
Corner. Jerry Showalter, manager
of the Newcomb Hall Book Store,
feels that competition has not hurt
business at all. Sales for the past
few years have increased steadily
and Mr. Showalter expects them to
be high this year even without the
convenience of a charge account.

Mr. Showalter expressed pride
in the new services to be offered
and invited all students to come in
and browse around. Books covering
such subjects as mod clothes,
Shakespeare, or sociology may be
found in ample quantities.
