Paulsen As New Law Dean

His wife, Elsa P. Paulsen, also
will join the faculty as associate
professor of pediatrics in the University's
Medical Center. Dr.
Paulsen, who is a specialist in
diabetic afflictions of children, is
a member of the Health Research
Council of New York
City and is assistant professor of
pediatrics at Einstein College of
Medicine in New York.

Dean Dillard came to the University
faculty in 1927. He had
been an undergraduate of the
University from 1919 to 1920
and received his bachelor's degree
from the United States Military
Academy in 1924. He received a
law degree from the University
in 1927. He served as acting assistant
professor at the law school
until 1929.

After practicing law in New
York and spending a year as a
Carnegie Fellow at the University
of Paris, Mr. Dillard rejoined
the faculty in 1932 as acting
associate professor. Appointed
associate professor in
1933 and professor of law in
1938, he has been James Monroe
Professor of Law since 1958.

A former director of the University's
Institute of Public Affairs
(now the Institute of Government)
he was one of the first
editors of the Virginia Bar News
and is an active member of the
Virginia and American Bar Associations.
