Gillenwater Chosen Head
Of Urology Department

Jay Y. Gillenwater has been
appointed professor and chairman
of the University's department
of urology.

A member of the University
medical faculty since 1965, he
succeeds Albert J. Paquin, who
died last March.

At the University, Dr. Gillenwater
has conducted research
concerning the bladder's defense
against urinary tract infection
and the effects of obstruction on
renal hemodynamics, function
and metabolism.

He has also served as director
of the urological training program
which provides resident
physicians with training in research,
investigative techniques
and surgery. This program,
funded by the United States
Public Health Service, is one of
11 in the country aimed at increasing
the number of academic
urologists.
