Candidates'
Platforms

Mr. Rickards has stated that
the "Student Council could
provide initiative in the area of
expansion which it hasn't been
doing."

Bill Huyett is running on an
independent ticket for one of
the two Engineering seats.
Instead of giving in to
increased enrollment, Mr.
Huyett calls for an exchange
program with other state
universities. "New dorms to be
built should be reserved for the
students we have now, not new
students," according to Mr.
Huyett.

Mr. Huyett points to the
long lines of the Contract
Cafeteria to back his proposal
of converting the Open-Square
cafeteria into another contract
facility.

Running as a Trigon
candidate from the Engineering
School, the incumbent Bill
Davidge favors limiting
vehicular traffic around the
Grounds, following through
with the Lambeth Field
Housing Project, calender
reform to the 4-1-4 system and
extension of the reading days
in the E-School to one full
week.

Reid Clemmer and Milton
Whitfield are campaigning for
the half-term seat from the
Engineering School but could
not be reached for a platform
statement. Candidates for the
Law School seat include
Michael Smith, Rawles Jones,
and Jay Waldron.

Mr. Smith proposes that the
Student Council put a lawyer
on a part-time retainer for
students. Student Council
should take an interest in
providing more services to the
students, according to Mr. Smith.

Mr. Jones believes that club
sports should be funded
partially by the Athletic
Department, parking fees
should not be implemented,
and adequate dining facilities
should be provided for the new
Law School.

Jay Waldron could not be
contacted for a statement.
