Charming

to speak, by playing as an encore
Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Figaro, a
magnificent piece of cellistic
exhibitionism based on Figaro's
opening aria in Rossini's Barber of
Seville.

Mr. Starker and Mr. Sebok, who
have known one another since
student days in Hungary some 30
years ago, possess that instinctive
rapport necessary to the successful
performance of chamber music, and
their compatibility was apparent
throughout the entire concert,
despite several occasions where the
piano overpowered the 'cello.
James Starker and Gyorgy Sebok
gave their listeners a rewarding and
interesting evening, and I know that
I will continue to attend and to
enjoy their concerts, even though I
shall always prefer Don Pablo's
approach to the 'cello.
