Elections

Democrat Howard M. Metzenbaum.
Mr. Taft campaigned on a strong
law-and-order platform.

The Nixon Administration won
a victory of sorts in Connecticut, as
Lowell P. Weicker, a moderate-liberal
Republican, won election
over two opponents, including former
Senator Thomas J. Dodd.

Democratic Senator Vance
Hartke, seeking his third term, and
Representative Richard L. Roudebus,
his Republican challenger,
battled to a virtual standoff that
will have to await the official vote
canvass before a winner can be
declared. With only three precincts
of 4,440 missing. Mr. Hartke led by
only 751 votes, 881,953 to
881,202.
