Draft Group
Elects Hite
Charles Alonzo Hite III, publisher
of The Cavalier Daily, has
been appointed chairman of the
Virginia Selective Service Youth
Advisory Committee, a group of
draft-age students who have been
chosen to advise President Nixon
on the Selective Service System.
Mr. Hite, who was nominated to
the committee earlier this month,
met this week with the other
committee members in an organizational
meeting. After the meeting,
it was announced that the
students had chosen Mr. Hite as
chairman.
President Nixon introduced the
idea of the committee shortly after
he look office this year, stating that
he felt a group of draft-age students
given an active part in the power
structure would add a valuable
perspective to the examination of
the draft system.
At the committee's meeting, the
members decided their work would
consist of researching both the
present draft and the proposed
lottery system and then of making
initial suggestions In the near
future, there will be a national
meeting of all state committee
members.
In a reshuffling of The Cavalier
Daily staff, Charles Sands has been
promoted to Monday Edition Editor.
Bill Fryer will be the new
Special Projects Editor, and Rick
Pearson has been appointed Wire
Editor. Also, Donn Kessler has been
elected City Editor.
