Concert Series Opens
With Guarneri Quartet
Charlottesville is once again
blessed with Tuesday Evening Concert
Series, designed bring
internationally renowned soloists
and ensembles to the University.
This season eight concerts will be
presented for a season membership
pass of $10 ($7.50 for an University
Student Membership).
The Guarneri String Quartet,
world traveled and tested, will
appear in this season's inaugural
performance on October 14 in
Cabell Hall Auditorium. They have
received such reviews as "superb
ensemble, peerless virtuosity" by
the Boston Globe and "...singly
and as a group, it has no superior
on the world's stages..." by the
New York Times.
The Berlin Philharmonic Octet
will be concert in this season's
third performance of the year. This
group consisting of former members
of the Berlin Philharmonic
Orchestra, was organized upon the
recommendation of its late Musical
Director, Wilhelm Furtwaengler.
They have performed all over
Europe and have appeared at the
internationally famous music festivals
in Lune, Vienna, Edinburgh,
and Salzburg.

Oct. 14 - Guarneri String
Quartet
Oct. 28 - Peter Frankl, Pianist
Nov. 11 - Charlie Byrd, Guitarist
Nov. 25 - Berlin Philharmonic
Octet
Feb. 3 - Marlboro Trio, Violin,
cello, Piano
Feb. 17 - Renaissance Quartet,
Tenor, Recorders, Viola da Gamba
and Lute
March 3 - Hungarian String
Quartet
March 24 - Dimitry Markevitch,
Cello
Tickets are on sale at Mincer's
Pipe Shop, The Music Center, Hi-Fi
House, and Newcomb Hall, in
addition to being sold at the door
before the first concert. All concerts
begin at 8:15 in Cabell Hall
Auditorium.
