First-Year Group Confronts
Vehicle, Dormitory Rules
men. The results of this poll are to
be compiled on or before the first
week in December.
The longest debate of the
evening was held over the motion
made by Dave Nahmias, chairman
of the Voting Committee. The motion
read, "To create a new and
separate office whose duty will be
to serve as a voting representative
on the Student Council. The election
procedure will be decided by
the Student Council with the recommendation
that the election
this year be held within the First-Year
Committee.
Require an Amendment
Debate centered on the fact that
such action will require an amendment
to the Constitution of the
Student Council and that many
people would not like the idea of
the new representative being
elected within the First-Year Committee.
A petition requesting the Student
Council's action on the motion
was drawn up and received the
25 signatures that are required to
bring it before the Student Council.
Petition Power
Petition power was also given to
the Housing Committee in an effort
to find out what improvements
are needed in the mail service, the
maid service, and the vending
machines that are provided by the
Food Service.
Three new committees were created
to supplement the first four
that were originally instituted by
the First-Year Committee. These
are the first-year directory Committee,
the Food Service Committee,
and the Special Duties Committee,
which will be in charge of any
miscellaneous areas not covered by
the other committees.
First-year men will be interested
to know that anyone who would
like to serve as a non-voting member
on one of the sub-committees
of the First-Year Committee may
do so by contacting Scott Saunders,
who lives on the third floor of
Bonnycastle.
