Wallace To Lecture Today
About Recent Gold Crisis

"United States Economic Policy
and the Recent Gold Crisis"
will be the title of a speech this
afternoon by Robert Wallace at
3:30 in the South Meeting Room
of Newcomb Hall.

Mr. Wallace, Assistant Secretary
of the Treasury, has recently
been entrusted with working
out the provision of the new tax
bill presently undergoing debate
in Congress.

He received his B.A. from the
University of Washington and his
Ph.D. in Economics from the
University of Chicago. He has
taught at the University of Washington
and the Illinois Institute
of Technology.

He was a student of former
Illinois Senator Paul Douglas,
and has served for a number of
years as his legislative assistant.

Mr. Wallace was appointed in
1961 by President Kennedy to
the Treasury Department and has
risen since then to his present
post.

In the Treasury Department he
is in charge of coinage, silver,
precious metals, and stocks.

His speech is sponsored by the
Department of Government and
Foreign Affairs, and is open to
the public.

Next Thursday the Department
will sponsor a talk by Lewis
Fickett, professor of Government
at Mary Washington College
in Fredericksburg.

The speech, entitled "India-The
Politics of Polarization" will
be given at 8 p.m. in the McGregor
Room of Alderman Library.
