Record High Hit In Scholarships

Undergraduate students at the
University received a record total
of $726,723 in scholarships
during the 1966-67 school year,
an increase of nearly 17 per cent.

According to a new report issued
by the office of institutional
analysis, 888 undergraduates received
an average award of $818
in 1966-67 which represents an
average increase of $139 over
1965-66.

Most of the scholarships during
the past year were held by
students in the College and the
School of Engineering and Applied
Science. In the College, a
total of 615 students held scholarships,
while 195 engineering
students received financial aid.
The average award in the two
schools was $857 and $711 respectively.

The University report notes
that other undergraduate scholarship
holders last year included
49 in the School of Architecture,
at an average of $610 per student,
and 14 in the McIntire
School of Commerce, which
averaged $460.

Overall, the average individual
scholarship award for undergraduate
students is rising. The
most dramatic example, the report
shows, is the School of
Education, which increased from
an average of $398 per student
in 1963-64 to more than $1,300
for 15 students in 1966-67.
