Glee Club To Present
Annual Xmas Concert

That Yuletide feeling will be
evoked Friday night when the
University Glee Club presents its
twenty-seventh annual Christmas
concert at 8:30 in Cabell
Hall Auditorium.

The concerts, which have become
part of the community's
traditional observance of the season,
mix representative folk
carols with more classical Christmas
music. The central theme
for this year's concert is "Unto
Us a Child Is Born."

Included among the compositions
adhering to this theme will
be "Puer Natus Est Nobis" and
a contemporary setting by Benjamin
Britten, dean of British
composers. A Melchior Franck
selection on a similar text will be
accompanied by cello and harpsichord.

Concluding this section of the
concert will be an attractive
baroque cantata presented by the
club with the assistance of several
members of the University
Orchestra. The singers will be
accompanied by strings, flutes,
oboes, and harpsichords.

In the second part of the program,
the Club will sing four
beautiful carols by the American
composer Halsey Stevens. In addition,
both singers and orchestra
will perform a group of English
carols, concluding with the
popular "Figgy Pudding" carol.

Three Spanish carols will be
sung by the Virginia Gentlemen
