Swordmen Await NCAA Tourney Trip

After placing fourth at the
recent ACC Championships, the
Virginia Fencing Team moves on to
Colorado Springs (Colo.) this
weekend for the NCAA
Tournament being hosted by the
Air Force Academy.

Three foilists will be
representing the University at the
Nationals. Steve Hatten, team
captain, heads the local contingent.
Hatten will be in the foil
competition. Steve had a brilliant
29-3 ledger this year and placed
first in the ACC meet.

Epeist Dave Seroski placed
fourth in the conference in his
specialty. This year he sported a
19-11 mark. Representing the
team's sabremen is Greg
Timberlake.

Last year Hatten grabbed the
20th spot in national competition.
Seroski, meanwhile, also placed
with a fine 32nd spot nationwide.
As a club Virginia ranked 30th last
time out; they would like to
improve on this showing.

Preliminaries will be held
Friday, while finals will be
conducted round-robin Saturday
and Sunday.

The three representatives who
are going to the Nationals have
been practicing diligently for the
past several weeks.
