More than half of the first-year
men in the College have returned to
their Physical Education classes for
the second semester after curriculum
changes have made the course
no longer mandatory for a degree.
According to Coach James West,
Director of Service Physical Education,
"the response...has been excellent."
However, Mr. West points
out that there are openings in
nearly all classes.
Under the new system, a student
is given one credit hour per
semester and is graded on his work.
The course is in the School of
Education, but does not count
against the fifteen hours a student
can take outside of the College.
Among the advantages of Phys.
Ed. pointed out by Mr. West are
opportunities in beginning and
advanced swimming, a chance to
balance a program of classroom
work with physical activity, and a
chance to learn many sports which
can be used later in life.
As February 10 is the date
designated for the deadline for
adding a new course, those interested
in the Physical Education
program should sign up in the near
future.
