Phi Psi Dumps Zete To Stay
Unbeaten; Chi Phi, Phi Gam Win

By Bruce Franzel
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Phi Psi destroyed any hopes that
Zete had of regaining the High
Point basketball championship by
defeating the reigning champs 4640.
Ed McClung was the big gun
for Phi Psi with 18 points, coming
mostly on long jumpers. The
score was tied at half time but
some fine shooting by McClung
and Rick Spigone, who finished
with 11 points, gave Phi Psi the
6 point margin they needed. Dick
Reid was the leading scorer for
Zete with 10.

Chi Phi remained undefeated by
topping DU, 37-31. Bob Miller
led the scoring with 16 points for
the victors.

Phi Gam, sparked by 15 points
from Rick Andrews walked over
Phi Sig 65-31, to remain among
the ranks of the undefeated.

In somewhat of an upset, DKE
pulled out a victory over St. A
43-36. Joe Ferens was the only
DKE in double figures with 15
but the team's well balanced attack
was enough to send St. A to
its second loss of the season.

Despite a full court press by
Theta Chi, Delta Sig sent the
team to its fourth loss without
a win, 31-25. Leigh Thornton of
Delta Sig led the scoring with 11
points and with the help of teammate
Don Napier, controlled both
the offensive and defensive boards.

Charles Blackman's 16 points
were not enough to overcome the
strong overall power of Phi Delt,
as KA was romped 61-29. Mike
Stuart and Sandy Hammett shot
for 14 and 13 points respectively
for Phi Delt.

Leading the scoring for the third
time in a row, Rick Dygve's 26
points led unbeaten ATO to a 5920
victory over Kappa Sig. Dygve
has scored 59 points in his last
two games.

Phi Kap led from the beginning
and topped TKE 46-33.
Dwight Ferguson was the game's
only player in double figures with
17. AEPi triumphed over SPE
42-36 with an 18 point contribution
from Jeremy Kahn.

Warming up for their big game
tonight with PiKa. SAE beat Sigma
Pi 59-27. Dave Malesco was the
high scorer with 18 points.

St. Elmo came within 6 points
of reaching the win column as it
lost to Pika 52-46. Sigma Nu,
led by a 15 point performance from
Bill Oliver, upended Sigma Chi
46-34.
