Swimmers Topple Georgetown,
Finish Season With 8-2 Mark

By Ted McKean
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Virginia's successful swimmers
concluded their season of dual
meet competition Saturday with an
easy win over the mermen of
Georgetown, by a 76-28 score.
Coach Ralph Law used his reserves
in finalizing the season's
record at eight wins against two
losses.

According to Mr. Law, "The
most impressive performance of the
day belonged to Co-captain Jack
Wilson." Wilson's time of 1:55.4
in the 200 freestyle lowered his
own school mark by three seconds.

Bob Camper, as the high scorer
of the day for the Cavaliers, won
nine of the twelve events. He won
the 100 freestyle, and anchored
the victorious 400 freestyle relay
team.

Other first place finishes went
to Howard Hasen in the 1000
freestyle, and Nelson Workman in
the 50. Bob Sinnott, who has
been used in 200, 500, and 1000
freestyles all season, showed his
versatility in triumphing in the
200 individual medley.

The Virginians took both relays
as well from their visiting opponents.
Bob McKinley, Brian
Fuller, Tom Campbell, and Bruce
Kauffman made up the medley
team, while Charlie Hodges, Bill
Fryer, Kauffman, and Camper
composed the freestyle foursome.

With dual meet competition concluded,
the Cavaliers now travel to
Chapel Hill for the ACC Championships
this Wednesday.

Competition there will be without
a doubt the stiffest encountered
throughout the season. North
Carolina, North Carolina State,
Maryland, and South Carolina,
nationally recognized teams, are all
in the running for the Conference
championship.

Virginia, which offers no swimming
scholarships, will be relegated
to a battle for fifth place, which
was last year's placing.
