Turkeys Beheaded

By CLARK EMERSON

Richmond weathered the
loss of four players in double
overtime Monday to upset
nationally ranked Virginia
Tech, 94-93.

Spider Ray Amann's bucket
forced the contest into its
second overtime and his tipin
of Aaron Stewart's miss with
11 seconds left was Tech's
downfall. Amann and Stewart
grabbed 12 rebounds apiece to
lead Richmond to a 40-30
board advantage, "our
undoing" according to Tech
coach Don Devoe.

Richmond's swarming zone
defense effectively calmed the
Hokies' high scoring forward
Allen Bristow, limiting the 6-7
senior to 16 points before he
fouled out with 89 seconds left
in regulation time. Tech's Craig
Leider scored 35, most on
medium range jump shots.

The nation's fourth leading
scorer, Stewart dazzled the
Robins Center crowd with 41
points. None of Tech's
frontcourtmen, including
Bristow, could contain the
junior college transfer who has
reversed Richmond's basketball
fortunes.
