In Tennessee Tournament

BY ALAN ALTSCHULER

The Virginia Bowling Club
placed fourth in the American
College Union International
Regional tournament, held
Thursday and Friday in
Knoxville, Tenn., while
fourth-year man Tom Brittain
won himself a trip to Syracuse,
N.Y. to compete in the
nationals, by virtue of winning
the all events title.

Brittain, Gary Dungan,
Dave Butler, Steve Slight, and
Andy Humm represented the
Virginia team, which finished
only behind the University of
South Carolina, the University
of North Carolina, and the
University of Tennessee in the
17-team tournament. The
keglers averaged 177 for over
45 games, led by Brittain's 1743
nine game total.

Brittain opened with a 149
first game, then averaged 199
for the next eight games
including consecutive games of
232 and 225, in pacing the
field of 85 bowlers. Brittain
will fly to Syracuse to compete
in the national tournament
held April 14, 15, and 16.
About 20 other bowlers will
be there in trying to represent
the United States in the World
Cup tournament reportedly to
be held in Europe in the fall.
