U. Conn. Erases Deficit,
Edges Malletmen, 12-11

Charlottesville skies finally
cleared, and the late afternoon sun
produced a tranquil setting Sunday
as Virginia met the University of
Conn. in its third polo game of the
fall season. However, the score was
not a sunny one for the Cavaliers,
nor was the game a tranquil one,
for the University of Conn. edged
past the squad to win the match,
12-11.

As usual Virginia got off to a
quick start in the first chukka with
two goals by Mark Pirrung and Reid
Graham, and the Cavaliers managed
to hold the lead until the fourth
chukka. They led at the half 7-4
and at the end of the third chukka
9-6, but in the fourth chukka the
tables turned as U. Conn. took the
lead with 3½ minutes left in the
game.

In an all-out effort the Cavaliers
managed to tie the score 11-11 with
John Stuart's goal, but Conn.
managed to score in the last
seconds of the game to give it
the game 12-11.

U. Conn. has always proved a
tough opponent for the Cavaliers;
in the three games between the two
teams neither club has won by
more than a one goal margin. U.
Conn. has already defeated Yale,
which is the Intercollegiate
champion and the opponents for
next Saturday's Opening Weekend
game.
