Rugby Team Participates In Typical Life-and-Death Struggle On Nameless Field

"A" Side Thumped Favored Penn State, 14-8, In Action This Weekend At University Station

Penn State's "A" Rugby side
was handed its first defeat in four
outings this year by an
upset-minded Virginia "A" side,
14-8 in a game played in the sun
next to Beaver Stadium in
University Park, Pa.

Ron Pulliam played an
outstanding game for Virginia,
scoring three tries for 12 points,
while Phil Mitchell booted one
two-point conversion to round out
the Wahoo scoring. The Lions
edged Virginia 6-3 last season.
Randy Grespin and Downing Smith
were cited for their performances at
wing, while Kirt Kirtland was a
stickout at wing forward.

In the remainder of the Rugby
Club's weekend slate, W&L's "A"'s
tripped Virginia's "B"'s, and
Washington and Lee's "B"'s
knocked off Virginia's Blues, 7-4.
