Riders Top
Farmington

The Virginia Polo Team opened
its fall season Sunday with an 11-8
upset over Farmington.

The Cavaliers were awarded a
two goal handicap which enabled
them to jump to a 5-2 lead in the
first chukka. However, Farmington
rallied in the second chukka to tie
the score at 6-6.

The teams returned to battle
out the tie in a fast third chukka,
and John Stuart's goal ended the
third chukka with the Cavaliers
leading 7-6.

Reid Graham then boosted the
Cavaliers ahead with two quick
goals at the beginning of the fourth
chukka, and John Stuart and Roger
Steele each tapped in one goal to
give Virginia a three goal victory
over Farmington.

Mark Pirrung and Steele
alternated playing the number one
position, and John Stuart started in
the number two position and Reid
Graham filled the number three
position. In the second half Stuart
and Graham switched positions to
provide for more team work among
the players.

In overall scoring it was
Stuart(4), Graham(4), and
Steele(1). Col. Harry Wilson was
high scored for Farmington with 4
goals, and Roar Rinehart and
Doug Nichols each scored 2 goals.

Next week the Cavaliers will
face the Oxridge Polo Club of
Darien, Conn. Once again Virginia
will be competing against a team
with a higher rating.
