Virginia Plays Poorly,
Crushed At Tech, 93-79

By John Markon

The Virginia Tech basketball
team goes by the name "Gobblers"
but the real birds on the floor in
Blacksburg last night were dressed
in Virginia's blue and orange.
Playing poorly in almost all facets
of the game, the Cavaliers dropped
a 93-74 decision to the inspired
Tech forces.

None of the hallmarks of
Virginia's previously successful
style were present as the Cavs'
shooting, ball handling, rebounding,
and floor finesse all were far below
normal.

After rolling to an 11-4 lead, the
Wahoos fell behind at 20-18 and
never again saw the light of day.

Only Tim Rash, hitting 22
points, escaped the epidemic of
mediocrity.

The freshman game was won,
84-72, by Virginia.
