Dean Announces Ban
On Women In Rooms

To students occupying rooms on
University Grounds:

The administrative authorities of
the University of Virginia have decided
to suspend the practice of the last few
years of permitting women visitors in
student rooms on the Lawn, Ranges,
Randall Building, Dawson's Row and
elsewhere on the Grounds of the
University. We have returned to
enforcement of the regulations
forbidding the presence of women
under any conditions except insofar as
the Dean of the University may give
special permission to mothers to visit
their sons.

This decision constitutes a return to
the practice usual in American colleges
and universities and to traditional
custom of the University of Virginia.

I.F. Lewis
Dean of the University
