PiKA, AEPi Pace Volleyball

By Jim Wilson

The second week of High
Point volleyball saw six teams
taste defeat for the first time.
Of the 11 previously
undefeated teams only AEPi,
Zete, PiKa, PiKa, and Phi Psi
won again. Five other teams
went without a loss this week,
but had lost before. Four of
these double winners beat only
second-rate teams, however
The exception was SAE who
beat Phi Sig (3-1) and DKE
(2-2).

A Division saw its leader
AEPi thin out contenders as it
soundly beat Sigma Chi and
Phi Kap. Joining Phi Kap in the
second place triumvirate was
double winner ATO and Delta
Sig at 3-1 all. The only other
team in this nine team division
with a bona fide shot at the
finals is Sigma Chi (3-2). The
rest appear to be destined to
obscurity this year.

The emerging power in the
B section is Zete with tow
wins, one over Sigma Nu and
one over a tough second place
Phi Gam in three close games.
Pi Kap also is undefeated after
beating cellar potentials Chi
Phi and Pi Lam, last week.

PiKa shoved Beta into
second place along with double
winner Theta-Delt to keep its
league record unblemished in
three years of competition.
The rest of the C Division,
except losers Kap Sig and
Theta Chi, split their record for
the week at (1-1).

Phi Psi, after its first week
win over SAE, could relax last
week with easier competition.
They won both of their games
over St. A's and ZBT. SAE
took care of previously
unbeaten Phi Sig in three very
close games in the best game of
the week. Save for double
winner SAM the rest of Section
D had a long week with only
one win in the other eight
games.

The volleyball leaders are now
emerging and victories, especially
among the seven second place
teams, are becoming more
significant. There are still a few
undefeated teams, but the season
has a long way to go to the
championships. There are only two
berths per division, but at least
eight teams.
