Polomen Down Penn

The polo team swept to its
second victory Sunday in a muddy
but convincing 12-4 defeat of the
University of Pennsylvania club at
the Farmington Hunt Club.

Plagued by the morning rain, the
Farmington arena was wet at best,
but the team led by "fiery" play by
number one Dave Banks grabbed a
4-1 lead in the first chukkar.

Play was often slowed when the
ball became immersed in standing
water, and it took all the effort of
the Virginia players to keep the ball
moving.

Captain Rob Rinehart taed an
impressive 5 goals during the play,
and was heard to comment later
that the dust was not a problem
during the afternoon and did not
hamper his style.

Banks also cored five goals for
the squad. John Stuart and Tom
Martin, who was substituted at the
half, won a goal each.

Willie McCormick, last year's
captain and now number two
player for Penn, played a commanding
game, scoring 3 out of 4
for the Quakers.

Also scoring for the Penn side
was Doug Anczak, classmate to
McCormick at Penn School of
Veterinary.

The Virginia varsity is scheduled
to meet Cornell next Sunday at the
Garth Road arena. This match will
be preceded by a junior varsity
match between the two schools.
The V game will be held at 3:30
on Friday in the same arena.
