Midfielder Jim Potter Named As 1969-70 Polzer Award Winner

Co-Captain Of Lacrosse Team For Two Years, All-American Once

James L. Potter, Jr. has
been named the recipient of
the Cavalier Daily's John J.
Polzer Award for the 1969-70
session.

A fifth-year engineer from
Gibson Island, Maryland, Potter is
the co-captain of the varsity
lacrosse team. He was selected as a
second team All-American in 1969,
having previously been named as an
Honorable Mention selection.
Elected captain for the second year
in a row, he shared the post last
season with another All-American,
Peter Coy. Both were captains of
the 1966 first-year team, which
went undefeated.

A midfielder, he handles the
face-off duties and leads the team
on attack. He has often been called
the smoothest player to ever have
played the game for the University.

The award is given in memory of
John J. Polzer, captain of the
football team in 1955, who was
killed in an automobile accident
while down the road. It is awarded
annually to the most outstanding
athlete at the University best
portraying the gentlemanly
traditions of the school. It will be
presented by the Sports Editor of
The Cavalier Daily in its annual
cocktail party, to be held Friday,
May 1, in the garden of Pavilion X
at 4 p.m.
