Gibson Signs
First Recruit

Virginia basketball coach Bill
Gibson has announced the signing
of this year's first recruit to a
grant-in-aid. Bob McKeag, a 6-6,
210-pound forward from McDowell
High School in Eric, Pennsylvania,
is a versatile athlete and was highly
sought by several major colleges for
his football talents as an offensive
end, but chose to come to Virginia
to play basketball because he
"wanted to play in the A.C.C."

McKeag averaged 15 rebounds a
game and scored over 18 points an
outing as his team rolled up a 16-6
slate this season. He cited several
reasons for picking Virginia, including
its "beauty, facilities, and academic
standards," adding that he was also
influenced by a "close personal
relationship with Coach Gibson."

Gibson said that he was "most
happy with Bob's decision to enroll
at Virginia. He should help our
program move forward." The coach
characterized McKeag as "ideal for
our fast break with strength, speed,
and a consistent outside shot."

McKeag was a national Pass,
Punt, Kick champion at the age of
nine, and as an amateur golfer he
has scored a hole-in-one.
