IM Roundup
Three Lead In Race
Only three fraternities boast
unblemished records as a result of
Wednesday's IM football action.
Zete, last year's champions, ATO,
and ZBT all remain undefeated and
tied in the race as High Point title
contenders. The Zetes blasted Pi
Lam 25-0 to stay in the running
and remain the only team in the A
Division with a perfect record.
Other A Division games saw Phi
Delt squeak by Phi Sig, 20-13,
Sigma Pi beat KA, 12-6, and in
what certainly was the upset of the
year, SAE was knocked from the
ranks of the undefeated by lowly
Sigma Chi in overtime, on the last
play of the period, 20-19. There is
no joy on Grady this evening.
In the B Division, the Phi Psis
fell to St. Anthony, 18-0, Delta Sig
beat SAM 25-13, and the AEPi's
kept their record the best in that
division by thumping the Chi Psi
Lodge 24-13.
Phi Gam narrowly got by the
Beta House, 8-6, in C Division
action. ATO, sporting a 5-0 record,
the best in any of the divisions,
beat Theta Chi 13-6. Chi Phi
downed the SPE House 6-2, and the
Pi Kappa bombed DU 20-0.
The race in the D Division
remains the closest of all, with
Theta Delt and Phi Kap staying
close behind the leader ZBT, with
3-1 records. The Phi Kaps, featuring
the only potent ground attack to
think of, downed the Elmo House,
6-0, as the wizardly Elmo defense
was unable to rise to the occasion,
dropping a tough one. Theta Delt
beat TKE, 25-20, and PiKA edged
Sigma Phi, 8-0. In the biggest
scoring show of the season, ZBT
demolished DKE 57-13. Tome
Joyce scored three touchdowns for
the winners, and Bob Galione and
Rick Hawk each tallied in a losing
effort.
This Wednesday's action marked
the beginning of the second half of
High Point football competition,
with the play-offs scheduled for
October 27. If the Zetes can keep
up the grueling pace, a sure winner
for the pigskin crown may not be
decided until the championship
game itself, scheduled for October
31.
